Was wondering what is the best paper to use for the power pads, and also what is the best glue to secure them with. Thanks much Drew
Howzit Drew, I use Hermes sand paper that I get from Fiberglass Hi. and Tacky adhesive also purchased at Fiberglass Hi…Aloha, Kokua
Drew you can also get sandpaper from any auto paint shop supplier. There is a glue called “Feathering Disc Adehsive” made by 3M…comes in a tube or spray can.I’m with Kokua on the “Tacky” glue but I always forget to order it and buy locally. In a pinch i have also used 3M “Spraymount” but make sure that you peel the paper as soon as you are done.Heres a tip that I learned long ago.Avoid putting to much glue on your pad as it will build up over time and make the surface bumpy.Once you have the pad “primed” you should only have to apply it to the paper.I take a dab and rub two sheets of paper together which gives me a second sheet ready to go.If you forget to peel the paper off the pad and it is really stuck ,warm it up by sanding something and it will peel right off.Kinda longwinded here but Little things like this are handy. …I prefer 3M’s spray 90,it’s a high temp spray glue, and just a little bit is all that’s needed.Other spray glues like 77 or the Target brand stuff works well as long as you don’t do prolonged sanding(10’+ boards). The goop stuff is too time consuming for me as well as messy, but it does work over and above standard levels. …Paper, what ever works, the cheaper the better, with the exception of fine sand paper,I prefer Norton or 3M.Herb
Howzit Cleanlines,I apply the tacky to those little nubs (there’s 12) on power pads. Like you said, don’t overload the pad with glue. I use another glue that’s really sticky for the pad I use on FCS plugs and fin boxes. Tacky doesn’t hold up when the pad gets to hot and the paper moves on the pad. The only problem with the sticky adhesive is you need a heat gun to get the old paper off. Aloha, Kokua
thanks so much for the responses. Like always…most helpful
