power plainer

what is the best type of power plainer to buy, are there differences, any suggestions?

I would suggest aquiring the Clark modified Hitachi Planer. The one available at Foam EZ has the vacuum attachment and upgraded sealed bearings already on it. I was amazed to see Al Merrick using one in his “Flow” DVD (thought he would’ve used a Skil). I have heard others here using different brands with good results too…but my recommendation would be the Hitachi.

where could i get a plainer that is Clark modified?

www.fiberglasssupply.com shipping out of Washington State has them still. $375.

I looked at the www.foamez.com site. I’ve been using the earlier version which which was’nt as ergonmical as the present version.

that would be planer.

375$ is a little steep for me, so if i buy a regular industrial planer at a hardware store what kind of difference will it make?

you can buy the Hitachi 20SB planner from lowes without the modification from clark for $99.00

make the modifications yourself over a period of time
