Anyone out there using latex primer to seal there blanks? Any delam problems? Quick and easy.
A long time ago I read that a guy in Oregon was sealing Eps with 3 latex coats. And then using poly resin to glass his board. If I remember right he said to letting it dry fully was the key.He got a lot of flack but said it worked.Latex is not as light as FF spackle or epoxy-micro balloons. Most guys use acrylic paint. When I have peeled glass off boards the painted blank parts stuck better.Sounds easy,do a test panel and let us know.

if its eps, theres no point really
especially if the reason is to glass with polyresin
are you having trouble to find a glasser who uses epoxy?
if you cant find a glass shop that uses epoxy
dont use them
they are living in the dark ages and will only feed you bulshit about how crap epoxy resin is
same old story
the reason to seal an eps blank is partly cosmetic and partly so the blank doesnt suck up to much resin
micro balloon/epoxy or spackle are quick and easy
takes about ten mins using epoxy and micro balloons
I recently tried to peel some glass off of a fully painted board and was amazed at how well the poly resin and glass was bonded. This board was sprayed with acrylic paint. I think acrylic and latex are the same thing. Both are water based. I did primer a board recently because it was a home made blank using 2 part pour foam. Blank had problems with it’s foil so haven’t spent a lot of time with it in the water and plan on selling for cheap, therefore I won’t really know the long terrm results. I do know that the primer helped with any outgassing problems.
No problems finding an epoxy glasser because I do it all myself. Also, I use only poly blanks, so theoretically no need to seal, but I still get one or two outgas bubbles every time. My main reason to primer is to stop any outgassing and to try to lighten up the resin weight. My last board used too much resin. I am going to primer next board (unless I hear an out cry to not primer it backed with good reasoning) and try to wet the cloth in a shallow pan before putting it onto blank.
id like to hear how it goes
sorry i was on another trip when i replied to your post
i know the movie set guys need to seal eps quick and they use sme sort of spray that sets hard
i was thinking that somethinglike that would be good for sealing balsa
