Hi. I’m planning to do my first rice paper logo on a board I’m currently shaping. I found a really cool pic on the internet that I want to use to cover the entire deck of the board. Is there a way of blowing this picture up so that it covers the deck. I’ve seen “photoshop” mentioned in here. What is photoshop. Is it a software package and how does it work and can it be downloaded off the internet ??? Any advice would be really appreciated Brian (Ireland)
Brian, Photoshop is an imaging program that manipulates well, images. Very expensive to purchase, but you can maybe download a trial version at Adobe.com As far as the picture on the web, sorry to say but it won’t cover a large area. It comes down to a factor called DPI or, Dots per inch. 99% percent of all web based graphics are sized at 72dpi. For anything to print well you need at least 150 and up, or the original image needs to be at 100% of final size or larger. The problem is is that you can not scale images up. For instance if the size of the image that you like is 4"x4" at 72dpi, and you want it sized to 12"x12" inches then you are going to have an image that is 24dpi. You can add dpi, but the fact remains that it will still print out as if it were 24dpi. It is either there or it isn’t. Your best bet is to take the image to someone with some artistic ability and see if they can recreate it in a size large enough to suit your needs. If you want you can send it to me and i can see what can be done to make it happen
Post the image… lets see it. Illustrator is vector, if you can reproduce it in there, you can have it any size you want… if you have access to a plotter.
