I heard gossip about Probox and Future Fins. It seems that Future is going to make the Vector fins system fit the Probox system? Has anybody heard this, or any truth to this?? Gives me a boner just thinking about it!
How cool would that be? Futures going from fixed to expandable. Think about the Future GL tow fins being in a Probox set up. Tweeking the tow board…how cool is that…or how scary depending on your view of the world.
Come on what’s the skinny? Don’t you love the ASR show, and all the gossip it kicks out?
Look…closely…Hey, this has China thread implications also. Homeblown Foam FL/San Diego, Pro Box, Built by local FL shapers for FL surfers. Wow! It can be done, we do have a choice:)

So your saying that Probox does all there manufacturing of fins in the US? I thought everybody was overseas. That would be sweet to have an all US manafactured board that can semi-compete with the overseas boards. Hand shaped USA foam, with US plugs & fins…Go USA!
So we got, Home Blown, Ice9, Probox, Halcyon…Does Lockbox, Future fins or the other fin guys produce fins in the US? Lockbox mentioned “would it make a difference to anyone if there was a soley domestic line for fins?” So I’m assuming that production is overseas, but I don’t know? Just asking.
This whole economy thing I getting me ready to dust off my red, white & blue superman cape, and fly around kicking ass and taking names.
Rainbow still makes the majority of their fins here. The procore fins come from china. As I said…if they were made here we’d buy them. As far as Lokbox is concerned, all products (boxes and plastic fins) generated by us (Lokbox) are made here at Daum Tooling in san clemente california. Anybody is welcome to contact Tom @ Daum to verify that. Our company is licensed to Rainbow. If you truly want an all american made fin system just order the plastic fins, or call Rainbow and order glass fins made in their factory in santa cruz. Simple.
All FCS Production Fins sold to date in the US, Europe and elsewhere have been made right here in Orange County, California for the past 11+ years.
This includes all the original black composite fin templates, the newer GlassFlex material and everything in between. I believe most of Futures “glassflex” fins are also locally made in HB. Although Bahne does produce some ongoing custom runs for us, the bulk of fiberglass & RTM is overseas as it is with Futures, True Ames, Bahne and many others.
From a quantity standpoint this makes FCS a net US exporter of fins by a factor of multiples… 10:1 - 20:1 … I
And a good portion of Futures are made in Huntington Beach and a significant portion of FCS is made in Irvine…I don’t think this is a great reason to pick one system over another either.
The Chilli boards on display looked good, are you guys bringing them in as your association with Eskimo foam and Chilli is strong?
BTW you talked about fins “to date” being molded in US. Does that mean they won’t be made in US in future? Also those pesky plugs, made in…?

PS Hope you have had a chance to read the treads including Silly’s goat story…Funny as all shit. Ron said he had a sense of humor and he would havehad a good giggle if he is not still away.

Interesting answer Lokbox, I make Aercors here in the USA which are RTM fins and you were buying them and so was Rainbow Fins. Larry

resinhead, You are right! My primary focus with ProBox was to deliver the best fin box system I could that would allow the kinds of adjustability that surfers and designers needed and weren’t getting with most other systems.
As a custom fin maker I had the ability to create all the varied fiberglass fins necessary to fit the ProBox system. I feel ProBox is well on the way down that path. But there is more that I have wanted to do but had to get a lot of stuff established first.
From the start I wanted to provide a large and diverse selection of great fin designs that would be easily accessible to as many customers as possible at a fair price. But to create all these fin designs with the ProBox tab would be an expensive and time consuming process, that in the end would be somewhat redundant since many of those fins already exist from other suppliers, just not with the ProBox style tab.
So, awhile back I began discussions with Tony and Vince Longo at Futures Fins as I felt they had the strongest following for their great fin designs, among surfers. These discussions have now led to a wonderful agreement that I can now make public.
Beginning in 2008, Futures Fins and ProBox have joined forces making all Future Fins including their Vectors available with the ProBox tabs to fit the ProBox System. This will be an evolving process where we will be bringing the most popular fin designs on line as quickly as possible. I hope you guys will be as excited as I am about this collaboration and I am really looking forward to working on providing the best Fin Box System coupled with the Best fin designs available. Not to mention some exciting new stuff that Future and I already have in mind, making your surfing experience fun and progressive for years to come.
Welcome to to the ProBox movement into the FUTURE. Mahalo, Larry
I am not going to open the China thread here. But for me it did make a difference where the fins were made. (Excessive shipping of product in todays global/internet economy=bad for enviroment - surfing different than most industries - local craftsman in every community making kick a*s stuff so why go elsewhere…long story) I researched and the only two guys doing all USA handmade fiberglass were Larry @ Fibre glas fin and Steve Mock @ Island Fin Design. I got no beef with any system, but Pro Box gives me the Best Made In USA/Versatility/Fin Selection for my boards. My boards can only be purchased in FL so don’t try to order one if you live elsewhere:)
