Probox install without downrails

I’m installing probox on a couple boards that don’t have turned down rails in the tails. When I put the jigs on there is a lot of it that is unsupported. Is there a way to still do the install and get around this? Obviously my biggest concern is that they won’t work as a dam for the resin.

Thanks

you’re going to be routing thin air, which means the box will be sticking out of the side of the board, and would have to be ground off. I really wouldn’t install them there…

I agree. The boards I made with that kind of rail were single fins. I once made a 2+1 with that rail and I remember the same problem and ended up just moving the fin placements.

pau…aloha and mahalo!

I think you would still have a problem even with FCS, I would suggest moving the fin placement in a little more.

FCS wouldn’t work either. I’ve tried moving the jigs in further but I think the fin placement would be so off that the board wouldn’t work.

It seems to me that glass ons are the only good option. Any thoughts on this?

Rachel, could you post a photo of the board’s tail outline showing planned position of fins? Also, dims.

…if you have 50/50s you dont need stabilizers…

I was thinking something similar: 50/50 rails doesn’t seem to fit with the lift provided by stabilizers… but hey, now that i think it again, one of my all time favorite longboards had something similar (the rails aren’t that soft anyway). I’ll check it tomorrow.

Coque.

how close are you trying to set the trailing edge of the side fins to the rail? and just how thick is the tail that the radius of the tail’s rail curvature is that great? Personally, I think 50/50 rails are for tankers or nose riders and neither one really needs side skegs. But I guess Swaylocks is supposed to be about experimenting, so let us know how it turns out.

Aloha Rachel:

There is another option that you might consider if you are prepared to make or buy a set of custom fins.

What you can do is move the box FORWARD and then make a set of fins with the base shifted forward by the same amount this will then allow the box to be in an area where it won’t overhang the rail but the back edge of the fin will be where you want it to be located.

If you want to take this approach and it will work for you and you need to get a custom set of fins made to work for your setup just let me know and we can help you out.

nevermind

Howzit reverb, I feel the same way, with those rails it should be a single fin board. Aloha,Kokua

anyone who knows me knows how i feel about 2+1 or thruster fin setups, so i shouldn’t even need to say it…but…

SINGLE FIN IT!!!
