So, after lots of help from bb30 and reading on Swaylocks, I backfilled those fin boxes up to carefully masked area around box, sanded with micro precision. Then I laminated 4 oz and CF first, with clear resin let it set, then laminated 200G and 4 oz with tint.
I did this to avoid uneven tint around boxes that had resin contamination in foam. Everything turned out really good.
A bit worried how boxes will look after grinding.
Hello Tom-
The tinted lam looks very nice. I think the small white box outlines will look good after sanding too.
Vacuum bagged?
Hey Tom,
Thanks for posting, I was wondering how to put footballs on and still do a tint job over it without it looking uneven. That board looks cherry.
Just wondering anyone know how to do a tint or color job but still have it clear over the fin box? Maybe do the reverse, I.e do a 4oz tint lam then install the boxes?
Cheers and Merry Christmas!
Jason
It looks like TomW059 needs some more points to reply…
Nice work. Good color choice.
Well Eric, Perhaps! but I´m making this for a customer, and I´m pretty new at all the cosmetics. And i have a bunch of talented color and material designers that work for me in my day job, who will see the work and expect it to be top notch.
You put those those boxes in after lamination ?
Here are futher photos of progress- now working on 1,5mm Abachi veneer deck.
It looks like you’re saying you did 2 laminations; one in clear and the other with the tint?
gdaddy,
yes. i did 4 oz clear lam then followed with 200g + 4 oz tint lam.
