Project 2BluFools - A Flying Blue Cedar

Coming to a beach near me…teasers

Mahalo old friend may you live on forever on ocean swells…

wow, i like it!, is the board for you ? can you give us an update after riding it if it is ,the finish looks good , what did you use , pete

nice one bernie

that a lovely grain

really nice combo and the glassing looks really pro in the pic

noticed the fins are quite a lot of cant

what are your intents for this fin setup??

paul

the board has a fairly good size single concave running the length of the board flattening out right after the fins so the cant may look exaggerated but it’s 8-10 degrees of cant. I’m currently riding FCS H2’s and a silly aussie clone called x-rated right now on a 6’8" firewire alternator which is serving as a reference point for some these other experiments. I right my proboxes at 6-8 degrees anyway.

That’s kokua’s famous PU gloss coat formula layered over a heavily sanded and washed epoxy glass job. 6ox top and bottom over 1/8" cedar/poplar hand ripped planks over blue xps cedar and cork rails we’ll see if it holds up or falls apart. Gonna fine sand and buff out the gloss. she’s no light weight that’s for sure.

we’ll see in the long run

got four more to finish this weekend anyway

That looks really nice. A couple of questions- why did you decide to use the blue foam? Isn’t that XPS with all the gassing problems? Also, on the section below (with white foam) the rail bands look attached at an anagle. What was the thinking behind that? I remember a thread awhile back discussing the flex possibilities of rail bands oriented in that way. Mine came of that way but mostly because of error- cutting outline was not plumb, and sanding outline wasn’t plumb.

Was the wili wili in the tail block? A lot of mana there, yeah?

why blue?

cause we’re two blue fools I guess

blue one: 100% totally waterproof even better than air (hollow)

blue two: shapes better than any EPS we can buy from HD or lowes and $40 gives us two 2" blue blanks

fool part: it gasses when ruptured and has poor tencile(sp) strength that’s why we put on the 1/8 cedar/poplar cause the Grain crew and Danny Hess are making hollows with 1/4" of that stuff

We’re in hunt of an ultra light core that doesn’t suck water like eps or PU and doesn’t need spackling to get a smooth as PU butter finish.

That angle rail on the white EPS is a mistake that was cut off the tail

but don’t kid yourself

we’re just two silly amateurs trying to push the materials envelope playing around with inexpensive options that allow us to do so.

we still buy our personal boards from our favorite local gurus who get no respect from the rest of the surf community.

that’s how it should be in the eyes of two blue fools

some serious play time ahead for us the the coming weeks

5 more in the final stages

I love it!

Blue rides sweet…very lively foam.

Been eyeing polar at HD myself…some of it is nicely figured.

Nice work.

Go Surfing.

Cheers
