purple flying donkeys

Can anyone tell what kind of drill bit to use when drilling fcs? Specifics would help- brand, exact size, price. Thanks!

first you must tell us about the purple flying donkeys. it had better be good!>>> Can anyone tell what kind of drill bit to use when drilling fcs? Specifics > would help- brand, exact size, price. Thanks!

I just wanted to get some attention to my post. i really do need to know the bit size. Thanks!

Brett: If you are going to do a lot of these you might consider looking a some of the specialty parts of the kit that FCS sells, or buy select pieces to fit your need. Here is how I’ve been doing it. Recently, out of frustration with failures using this system I’ve move to a larger hole saw diameter (old- 1 1/8" to new- 1 1/4"). It will leave you with a larger column of resin bound to the surface layer of glass in hopes of a little more durability. The homemade kit: 1- 1 1/4" hole saw - start with this to make first cut in the templated layout 1- 1 1/4’ hole saw -grind the bit off to below the surface of the cutting teeth- (used to take the perimeter of the hole to the deck, without drilling thru!) Hole layout template- the FCS one is cheap and accurate- homemade one works too! FCS fin jig set- a set of FCS fins works too- for alignment before setting modeling clay- works well to hold your alignment while resin sets **I just bought a cheaper brand of hole saw, maybe $6.00, there are much better ones that will stay sharp longer. I use a third bit to cut the hole out cleanly, a Forstner bit, 1 1/4". By the FCS instructions, the hole is only cut deep enough to encase the plugs in resin. The perimeter of the hole goes all the way to the deck so you effectively have a column of resin from bottom to deck. Use patches top and bottom in your glassing schedule for proper strength around the plugs. There are guys here with much more FCS experience than I so maybe someone will give us both some tips on how to make it better. Good Luck.
