Quad or thruster for roberts diamond style board.

just done with an attempt on the roberts white diamond, 5'10 x 20 1/4 x 2 3/8,   they look like a great design so i had to have a crack.

any thoughts on fin placement or options?  was thinking to keep with the thruster set up as roberts does, but a quad seems like a good idea with the fat tail....

any help would be hugely appreciated.

thanks.

You could do both.

Agree. I would do both. IMO:

Front fins: 11" from tail; 1.25" from rail; 1/4" toe in.

Rear Quad fins: 5" from tail; 1.75" from rail; 3/16" toe in.

Thruster fin: 3.25" from tail.

Also, I would use some fairly high-area fins with a wide tail like that.

Board looks really nice, by the way. I have one slightly scaled up to 6’0" which works great with similar fin placement to my above recommendations.

I have one that is a thruster but I do wish I’d gone with the 5 box setup just to try out.  It seems as though the quad might handle a little more power.  I usually ride it as twin+trailer with FG-7’s on the rails and a K-3 center.  Looks like a nice board and I’m sure it will be fun whatever you decide.

Nice attempt jimbob, 5 fin for the diamond is the call. Good plan shape for that ! Mahalo, larry

fantastic, theirs a beginners mistake for you.  i hadn't even thought of a 5 plug option.

i will go grab some more plugs tomorrow, surf has been going off here (NZ) so boards have taken a back seat for a couple weeks.

this pic is of a local break. super fun and my pic just dosn't do it justice this morning.  it was a good double overhead on the sets, super fun long walls and the first test of my new stick.
