first, do not go armed.if caught it isn’t worth it, believe me.Yes, that area is a bad rip-off zone.(gatos noche).I no longer camp anywhere between Casas and the area of dunes and arroyos south of el soccorro-too many bad experiences and losses.If you go, stay at “developed” camp spots as anywhere else you will be a target(and even the camp spots around there are no guarantee to be trouble free)just go, have fun, stay low key, keep your camp tight and be aware of what’s happening around you and you should be OK.You may want to consider Punta Cabras as well.
guns are illegal big time in Mexico. Bring a big loud dog for protection.
Matt Punta Cabras. been there about 4 times and it’s never been worth the trip from Erendira up that crappy nasty road. The camping is ok and seems to be pretty safe.
