Howzit poser, A 1/16 " tolerence will work and yes some of the box ( usually the front and rear will get sanded off. Now if you measure the depth from the bottom of the tab to the bottom of the box it is around 7/8 th’s of an inch, just don’t route thru the deck.Aloha,Kokua
thanks guys, ill make sure I have about 7/8th then. How far is it from the bottom of the box to the bottom of the part that sticks out? What i’m asking is, how much space minimum does there need to be to put one of these things in?
Howzit poser, That’s the mesurement I meant, from the bottom of the box to the underside of the tab is 7/8th" When I rout boxes I go to a depth that will allow the middle of the box to be above the bottom of the board, If there’s lot of tail rocker if you rout til the tabs touch some times the middle of the box is lower than the boards bottom and this makes it a little tougher to set the box. Hopefuly at least 2 tabs( front ones) will hit the bottom which is OK but not preferred. For strength put a layer of 6oz in the bottom of the box. If the tabs don’t hit the bottom you’ll have to tape the box to hold it in place and also put a fin in the box to make sure it is straight up perpendicular and tape it also to hold it in place. Just don’t get in a hurry, check after each step and use common sense and it should come out OK. One of the best tool I have is a template and vacumn jig that LokBox gave me for doing installs but I still have my jig I made years ago for some installs,it’s adjustable for any size box.Aloha,Kokua
