Quesiton for the garage glassers out there

I remember back when I my cousin used a room in his house for a shaping room, even weeks after glassing the smell never went away… for those of you using your garage, does the smell pass after everything is cleaned out and what not? or does it stick there for a while? I need the garage for my weight bench and car to be parked… I dont wanna die of resin shit everytime I go in there

Howzit bob, Good ventilation is the key, it keeps the fumes moving out of the area. My shop is set up so the trade winds blow through it and with an exaust fan to help. When I open the doors there is no odors unless somebody forgets to put the lid on the acetone pails, but that is a rare occasion since it only happens when I let someone else glass and I’m not around to check that they shut up everything.Aloha,Kokua

Thanks kokua… im debating whether to do it there or on the back patio… live in a pretty residential area so there isnt too much wind back there.

go with epoxy resin and you wont have to worry about it at all. i glass in my garage without a respirator and the smell hangs around for a very short time

Already got two gal of lam resin to do two boards :)… think im gonna stick with the garage becuase outside will probobly have to much lighting to notice small stuff… the darkness will probobly help

I glass in the garage with the door 3/4 down, then open up and drag the board out into the light. No lingering smell; my neighborhood is windy. I’ve never had complaints from my neighbors, and I KNOW they are very well aware the instant I uncap the can of resin. I’ve got great neighbors.

I do the same thing, I put a screen door on my side garge entrance for the ventilation without the bugs getting in. Garage door most of the way down. When done I just open the door for more ventilation. No lingering smell. Also time of day here in Florida is important for bugs. Early morning works best for me, say 0700-1100. Evenings can be hell for bugs.

Howzit Honolulu. Yes we can thank the gusty trades for natural ventilation.Aloha,Kokua

in the words of pink floyd

" breathe …

breathe in the air …don’t be afraid to c-a-a-a-r-e "

by all means, wear respirators and full protective gear . But then , open it all up and let the fresh air in , once it’s all cured…
