I recently got my first shortboard, been longboarding for 5 years. Board doesn’t have volume with it, but I have measurements. 5’4"x21"×2 3/4". It’s 16 3/4 in nose and 16 3/4 in tail with A 8 inch squash tail. It has a 1 3/4 tail rocker and a 4" nose rocker. Was just wondering if anyone has a way to figure out the boards volume. I tried one of the cad shapers, but can’t figure the darn thing out. Board feels pretty floaty for me at 6’ 185 lbs. Was just curious so I can base future boards of this boards volume.
Thanks.
My wild guess is about 32-34 L
29 litres
Thanks for get back, the outline is very similar to the js pier poney, so I’m thinking somewhere between 31-34 is a good estimate, thanks guys.
The volume can vary widely depending on how it’s foiled.
You’d need to know a few more measurements to even get in the ballpark.
That currently in-vogue volume number thing is generated by surfboard cad programs like shape 3d. You would need to submerge the board in a really big displacement tank to find the volume the old fashioned way.
double post
Hi sorry to hijack this post but while your on the subject, is volume really important? I’m no experienced surfer or board builder but if volume are what a lot of people are looking at then I need to learn. I’ve noticed a few local companies here advertising their boards with volume as well.
Volume is very important if you are buying a machine shaped board or pop out. Hand shapes not so much. ;^}
Ah that’s ok then. Thanks for your reply mako224. Just need to figure out how to measure board volume now
