Question about longboard glass combinations

My last longboard I did 4 and 6 top, 6 bottom, standard poly. What are my other options to save weight, but retain strength or is that pretty much the standard longboard layup.

i glass my longboards much heavier than that…and i do my classic logs with A LOT more glass…if you want to cut down weight and increase strenght, try epoxy. here’s my glassing schedule:

big heavy log: 10-oz volan + 6-oz deck, 10-oz volan bottom

epoxy: 6+6 deck, 6-oz bottom w/ deck patch and tail patch

I’ve had very good results using triple 4oz on the deck, and single 6oz on the bottom, with hotcoat, gloss and polish.

I usually use 6&4 on the deck and 6under. However a mate of mine swears by 2x4 onthe deck and 4 under. But he only goes to 2&3/4 thick on his so it is a lot lighter stick before glass.he also goes 3x4 and then 2x4under on biger sticks so I think there is a use for light mals but I prefer a bit of weight to get the board to run. but not to heavy . hope that helps

your at the end of the line with those materials …

my current longboard is 9’-2" x 24 1/8 x 2 3/8 , concaved deck so its just over 1" in the middle , it weighs 9lb , ive been riding it just over a year and it doesnt even have a pressure dent on the deck yet …

it weighs less than a standard shaped urethane longboard blank …

either step into another arena or be happy with what you have …

Oh I’m happy! Only trying to save a few pounds. I appreciate what you are doing Bert and I have followed all your posts and others on composite construction. Hopeing to get around to trying it someday. I don’t make enough boards, but wish I had time to experiment. Another aspect is cost, I can make a poly board surf it as long as I want and sell it for more than my construction costs; so my boards are basically free; but again I will be getting around to more advanced composites eventually, and am learning allot from all the posts her on Swaylocks. Thank you.
