Question for Cleanlines

Howzit Mr. Clean, The acrylic that you thin out your paints,is it acrylic thinner? I was talking with Fiberglass Hi. about acrylic to use as a thinner and they carry acrylic thinner, is this the stuff or is there just pure acrylic that I can buy. I’m working on a project and thought about how you thin your paint.Aloha, Kokua

Howdeee Kokua.Nah I just used plain old exterior latex acrylic and thinned it with water but I added some clear acrylic varnish to give it some bite. The acrylic thinner you are talking about is probably acrylic lacquer thinner.I have also use acrylic lacquer paint on both foam (Clark) and on the hotcoat.Acrylic lacquer is hard to get but I like it a lot.You can buy spray bombs of acrylic lacquer from the auoto parts store.I also buy acrylic lacquer by the gallon for my furniture business,it comes from a furniture finish supplier. …I use water most of the time,if I paint on lighter shade-coats,or need the paint to dry faster, I mix in some rubbing alcohol. …I don’t use thinners much anymore,I just use good ol Future floor acrylic. …I coat my finished airbrushed paints with clear Future, works great, cheaper than spray cans, and costs aren’t bad if you buy it by the gallon…smart n final has some floor acrylic in a gallon that’s good to go also.Herb

Howzit Roger, It’s a water based acrylic thinner that costs $14.00 a gal., it can also be used as a sealer and if you apply 2 or 3 coats it can be polished. It can be mixed with water. Just trying some new ideas. Aloha, Kokua

Howzit Herb, Is that Future floor acrylic as in floor wax. On another note I have an artist friend who has used pigment mixed with a certain lacquer thinner and he says it’s the best hes ever used. Aloha, Kokua

…Yes,Kokua. …You can get it at any supermarket or home supplies store. …WATCHOUT,when you use lacquer thinner,it’s extremely flammable/volatile,especially if you’re spraying in an enclosed area.A source of flame or one good spark and BOOM!Herb

…Give me a call,HOMEY.Herb
