Question for Lockbox

I finally got a lockbox kit and I am STOKED!!! Top shelf stuff for sure!

My question is does it matter if the boxes are set pre hot coat on the lammed cloth, or say after hot coat, sand, set and glass over and then re coat/sand the tail area?

Thanks a ton.

Im no expert, but I put mine in similar to future boxes. I just routed it into the foam then glassed over it with an extra patch of glass over it.

They must be installed either into the foam before glassing,or into the laminated bottom BEFORE the hotcoat. Putting them into the hotcoat, patching over and re-hotcoating will lead to a heavy tail. For fish and large twins installing into the laminated bottom is the strongest. Place either a football patch of glass onto the foam, over the fin box area, then your layer of lam, or use a butterfly patch down on the foam under your lam layer. Ideal to have two layers to cut through, then a good sized patch of 5 or 6 oz over the boxes once they’ve been glued in. Then hotcoat the bottom. For thruster and quads easiest is to install into the foam. Place football patches min. 1 to 2 inches larger in diameter than the box, then your layer of lam. Setting your resin off slow for the glue-in = a strong install. Thanks!

Thanks guys, thats what I needed to know!

stoke, stoke, stoke, stoke!!!
