Hi guys,
I’m wondering if anyone out there knew a Long Island surfer in the late 60’s named Artie Russo. He would have been about 61 now- he was my mother-in-law’s brother; he moved from NY to Kansas in the early 70’s, and sadly he was killed in a work related accident in the 80’s. Anyway, I thought maybe someone on Sways might have known him back in the day and have some stories or possibly even pics to share. I have heard a few stories from my mother-in-law and his other sister- apparently he won a Juniors contest or two, at one point he shaped a board with some friends in the garage over the winter (only to have it fly off the roof of the car on the way to ride it the first time…), and I guess he had a home-made Indo board that he would practice on in cold weather. Also I believe he rode a Weber (probably a Performer given the time period?). I’ve been interested to find out more because he is my only family connection to surfing before me. Thanks for any info.
