Hey guys, Im relatively new to inlays, but I was wondering whether it could be possible to use a thinner and lighter material on an inlay such as tissue paper or rice paper?
I kind of had the idea of doing concentric circles on this fish I just made, using a yellow and a blue piece of tissue or rice paper. I wanted these thinner materials so you'd be able to see the blend of colors (which would be green here obviously) where the circles overlap. Anyways, I guess the real question is would the tissue/rice paper remain intact through the glassing? And if not, is there any substitutes or other ideas you can think of?
Cole, the possibilities are endless with inlays.Tissue paper will work fine. It’s thin and will works fine. Many people use it as their laminates for their logos. I’ve inlayed so many different materials it boggles the mind. I have used Burlap, many fabrics, Silk, colored/airbrushed fiberglass, and even window screen. Have fun, be creative. The attached board is a simple nylon mesh over a airbrush base.
citrus, recently saw a similar design on a Cooperfish but his were just straight-sided shapes. The colored tissue paper looked really clean, I think you can get a beautiful effect with your idea. Post pics of the results please.
