Quick Plug Question

I’ve got a leash plug that I’m wanting to install, it’s an after glass plug. Usually be sweet to insall in the stringer, but not much room with my swallow tail and futures back fin route. Don’t have any under the glass plugs. Do you think it’d be OK offset in the foam??

It should be no problem. I also like to cap my leash plugs with glass after installing them and dremal out the hole after glossing.

we offset many plugs every week.

after glassing, and not had any failures that im aware of. its pretty standard practice

Thanks guys, appreciated.

I know an old school board builder who swears by putting a small piece of glass in the plug hole (like a proper centerfin box install). Says he never had a leashplug issue in his 40+ years making boards.

even more;

I like to scuff the plug up a bit with some 60 grit or a razor blade.  Also sometimes run a low angle dovetail router bit in the hole. This off sets the hole making it wider at the bottom and narrower at opening.   No way its pulling out.  I do this on big wave boards.

glass in the bottom of a ragged hole, with a scuffed up plug....might be over kill, but only takes a few seconds to do, and never had one pull out yet.
