Quick steps to new plug in old resin swirl board

For what its worth, here one way to sudo match a resin swirl board that just had its fin box / plug ripped from it’s belly. First pic shows the finished deal, 2nd show the steps.

Mind you, that this is a down and dirty fix. Taking more time and care will result in better results. For me I just wanted to get the board back in the water…and not have the patch job look like frankenstein.

OK only so many MB per post. I knew that…

Once again for what it’s worth to you:

  1. fill hole with Bondo, resin cab mix, resin dia earth, sugar resin…what ever. Make sure it is sanded rough, something like 60 grit, but no lighter than 100. You need something for the new color to stick to.

  2. Pour a little acrylic paint mix, or a resin pigment mix close to damage. I used paint on this one.

  3. this is after the pull of color over the sanded fill

  4. glass with 2x6 oz…nice and strong. This is where you get the strength, not the mud you filled the hole with.

  5. lam done & put the box in. Look up in the archives if you don’t know how to put a box in.

  6. hot coat. You know the rest about sanding and polishing etc… Polish out with UPOL automotive clear coat.

Can’t say enough about ProBox. The old box took a direct hit with fin and reef. Box slightly cracked, but the board rail and forward panel cracked big time. Didn’t loose my fin…Very strong system and easy to install… and no Robin didn’t pay me to say that.

Ok bye

P.S., yes I do know that there is a big ol dry spot in the cloth. Like I said…fast.
