bernie,
i've been actually ,"downsizing" everything i own ............from firearms to tools.........surf skate stuff...........yeah............all of it.
the money has come in handy and when i make my move ..................it'll be that much easier.
oh don't get me wrong, collecting in the material world is loads of fun !!!!!!!
but where my future is.................there's not much room for what i own.
the toughest goal of separation will be with my family.............my dogs..............that will be the real test of life............foresure.
i think about you alot, and wish you the best my friend.
herb
yea herb
its so weird cause as a kid i could only afford one or two boards.
I think its that mentality that creates hoarding
I just hate to get rid of any of my boards
i used to tke care of them like jewels
sometimes i think its this not having things as a youngster that creates that mentality
i see that in the generation before us that had to struggle so
and when you have too much you just don’t care like most these days
i love doing the hand made crafts in that it doesn’t hurt as much to give them away to strangers
for they are truly smile makers
i try to do the same with boards
but its difficult finding those who’ll really appreciate that kind of gift.
but i have especially around the holidays.
and i have had similar gifts given to me by special people
its a different world these days.
take care Herb…SMILE!
and a big Aloha to you.
Hey Herb, I hope you’re OK.
My problem with the quiver I have is that is too random. It’s not a series of boards that work off a consistent theme or pattern. It’s just a bunch of boards with different sizes, different shapes and fin setups.
Worse part is that jumping from one to another requires a lot of adjusting because of the differences, yet I ride a different board every time I surf. In 4 consecutive days I’ll ride 4 different boards. Not a good way to get one totally wired, or be a ripper, but I love it. I’ll usually either be riding well and having a great time half way through the session, or go in pissed at myself for bringing the wrong board. Never had that problem before I started making all these boards. I’d buy one and ride it till I needed another.
thanks for asking sharky,
ya,i'm good.
just don't get to the water much these days...............and my goals i set some 3-4 years ago are coming around.
i wish you the best my friend............and when you are out in the surf............call out my name.............i will be there in spirit .
herb
Herb, good to know you are OK. If I can remember, I’ll catch one for you. Hopefully you’ll know exactly when it happens. Enjoy the ride.
Aloha, Harry
bernie/harry,
if you guys are in honolulu and have time to spare................stop by the barnes and noble book store........ and say ,"hi" to michelle mcneil for me................besides.............she's about to become famous !
herb
and,
btw.........fyi,
i finished another beautiful board for myself..............but just can't seem to hold on to them.............someone always offers me enough money to let it go.
i never get much for my labor,,,,,,,,,,but as i told dave hegstrom of skaterbuilt skateboards...............it's a labor of love..................i enjoy building boards..............i think more than riding them these days.
it keeps me ..............in the zone.
beautiful day today...............let's not waste another minute.
going out to my shop to shape, paint and glass another hydroglyder.......................
herb
Herb, did she say which store she works at? There’s one near Ala Moana and one at Kalaha Mall.
i believe ala mo.
thanks for asking..............and i know i still owe you some superchargers...............i haven't forgotten.
i plan on doing some catching up here...............not just with you,but some other very nice and considerate people here at sways.....................or a better way to put it..............it's time to get off my ass and do more..............and to hell with the crowd that tries and put me down..........this is the old herb here talking...............and just like in my past ............... if i have to..................... i will kickass and take names

herb
are you surfing , herb ?
hi sharkcountry harry !
your comment about your quiver was spot on for me , too . **
Too many different types / sizes of boards and too many ...yes , you guessed it , fins !...to choose from , is doing my head in , sometimes !
my current 2012 'quiver' ....
5'8 , 5'11 , 6'1 , 6'3 , 6'4, 6'6 , 6'11 , 9'4 ...plus "woodywaverider" 's hand plane / "handgun" for bodysurfing ...and, the trusty 'go pro' , too, of course !
edit : [the 5'11 and the 6'4 are single fins , the 5'8 is set up with up to six fin options , 6'6 is set up with up to five fin options ] . I also have a 6'6 blank
But only one skateboard, nowadays , and that languishes on the top of the cupboard....
cheers , guys !
ben
[yes , 'fins ' ... a friday the 13th [here] name change for me ... time to start at '0' , again ! ...]

Hi Ben, Tridrles was here vacationing with his family and he brought me a beautiful hand made handplane he made from Paulownia wood. It’s really beautiful. I rarely body surf these days, but I think that may change.
Since I didn’t get the box of goodies to you yet, I’ll add whatever else Bernie wants to send. Looks like there will be some Bamboo fins in there that you’ll have to finish.
I made some a while ago with the same wood, and just laminated them on to my board. I didn’t have worry about the extra strength needed for the FCS tabs. I think I just had one or two layers of glass over the wood. You’ll need to make the Wiliwili strong with lots of glass. I broke 2 paddles I made from Wiliwili. Couldn’t believe it, broke both of them in one day.
