Was gonna post this in the “memorial” - but there wasn’t a “post new” button.
Marty was only in his 50’s. His health had been poor. He was a legned in these parts - Beat Corky Carrol back in late 60’s when Corky was World Champion. He spent most of the last 15 years on the Hilo side of the Big Island. Survived by both little brothers and sister, and (I’m such a kook, I didn’t write this before) his mom, and lovely daughter. Both brothers are legends in these parts too.
I post this incase anyone here may have know Marty. He is missed greatly by his friends and loved ones, both here and on the Big Island.
Taylor
Hi Taylor O,
Sorry about your friend. Sounds like he was a damn good man who packed a lot of life in the short time he was here and will be missed by many. Mike
Hey Taylor,
Marty was part of the Newport (Or) crew, right? I remember him. Wow, that’s sad.
Condolences to his family.
AG
Hey Allan - He was from Newport, but you shoulda known him in the very early 80’s from “The point” - as he was living in the apartments across from the golf course when you lived w/Perry in the “paint can” house. Plus - he made some of those 70’s pilgrimages to the Islands w/Perry, the Holbrooks, and his brothers - I don’t know if you got in on any of those tripps, but it was probably around the same time you were hanging out at Bill B.'s shead on the North shore.
Anyway - A sad time indeed… some parts of getting older suck. Taylor
That’s right, Marty was down by the pt. I worked out of Newport one season with Dave Fee on the Star Polaris (alternating with Rick Cede and/or Perry), and I remeber hanging with Marty down that way.
The “paint can house”…There’s a story that maybe best left to Perry to tell. I never actually lived there, but we built some boards in the garage.
