New Fin Design Looks Nothing Like Traditional Fin Set Up

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 15 February, 2007 : - - A Gold Coast plumber has invented a radical surfboard steering system that could revolutionise the sport. Former Palm Beach surf shop owner Don Smith said the v-shaped Shredda system replaced dangerous fins making surfboards safer, more stable and faster.

He said he had already knocked back $1 million for the idea, which he hoped to adapt for use on boats and other craft. An international patent has just been secured and the Shredda Advanced Steering System will soon be on the world market for less than $100. www.shredda.com "

Sincerely, i don’t really think that set up is “high performance”. Maybe is fast, looks safer, but i can’t see this set up drawing nice turns… But at leastsomething different from the surf industry.

Coque.

Hey Coque

Yeah I am doubtful as to the holding ability of this setup.

At first glance it looks like a hydrofoil that would create lift but i wonder

how it would feel on a solid 8’ drop and looking at laying it over on the bottom turn. Still can’t fully judge till I’ve had a go.

Forgot to post the photo, here it is:

By the way, i’m of the thinking that so much square angles on a fin set up doesn’t look so natural.

Yeah have to say this does remind me of a surfboard hydrofoil I’ve seen somewhere before and that did’nt catch on. Still should’nt pour cold water onto something I’ve not tried myself. Would be nice to see someone surf this set up on there site, a vid clip is worth a thousand words.

There was an FCS rear plug fin that looked just like this a few years ago, even had an underwater video on their web site.

Yer I remenber that, what was it called, power tunnel or something

looks like a pain in the arse to instal, are the channel obligitory.

sounds like a lot of hype, but I won’t knock it to much till I’ve tried it.

I think it would look a little silly on my Model T.

Not saying anything about performance just asthetics.

There may be a noserider version coming soon.
