OK - Who would have guessed that two individuals would win 2 grand prizes apiece?!

In spite of some grumbling from the restless natives, I stand by our decision. Some people bought a lot of tickets. Some people just got lucky. We shook the can, we shook the can and we shook the can. Then we shook the can some more. Did I mention that we shook that friggin’ can? Then we stirred the tickets. Then we shook it some more. We let different kids pull the winners. Fair is fair.

Also weird… Lee Vanderhurst who won his own donated planer last year, won his donated planer again this year. Being the generous guy that he is, he put them right back in the raffle both times. Way to go Lee! Now, what about that 9’1"Y shape off I heard about?

I need to thank everybody who contributed stuff to this year’s raffle. Paul Jensen, Dale Solomonson, Richard McCormick and Lee Vanderhurst come to mind immediately for the grand prizes. Nellyda and Peter Costello donated some beautiful artwork. Peter also did the T-shirts and hustled up a printer who did a fine job. Tom OKeefe from Red-X showed up with a generous supply of Red-X fins. Ambrose made a nice board which will be making the rounds for many to try. Gregg Hunt sent a blank via Roger Kelly. Donald Bistline sent the locking “Gatekeeper” racks. Keith Melville sent a blank. Herb Spitzer never stopped giving - it was one thing after another to practically everyone there. He donated the EPS blank to raffle. Kokua sent some nice gift packs containing supplies and DVDs. Rich Sanders kicked in a nice gift pack with fin, Lance Carson T and Koa wood. Rich Pavel sent via Lee V a bunch of nice Ts and sweatshirt. Kirk Putnam arrived with a bunch of Vaqueros de los Olas Ts, Borjorquez Ts, Greenough Ts and Yater Ts - thanks to all of you. Steiny brought some folks from Santa Cruz and delivered the nice prayer candles along with Peter Costello art - thanks Steiny. The 9’1"Y blank was donated by Mike Sedgwick. That’s about it. My apologies to anyone I left out. Thanks to all!

What could make more sense than Mr.J winning the EPS blank! Proof that there is justice in the world!

thanks for your generous way of looking at my recent EPS blank aquisition Eric.

you’ve played an instrumental part in my participation of Swaylocks - your pink xps thread started me off.

wall insulation board building on the bleeding edge provides its rewards through the uncertainty of the result

i hope to see some pics of your pink xps board one day

i’m going to post some i took at the 2004 event

See…I told ya’. I never win anything. Oh, well. it was for a good cause. Looks like some primo prizes.

And now, for the dumbsh*t Least Coaster question of the day;

What’s “Hawaiian salt”?

Go ahead, lemme have it; I’m wearin’ my safety glasses…

PM me your address and I’ll send you a raffle prize.

No, it won’t be Hawaiian salt.

Keith

Um…yeah, PM’ing here…right. Now lesse…dammit, that was on Double Jeopardy laaaast night…

Thanks, man, but it’s not necessary. Really…I’m just happy to be here.

You guys, uh…you’re not gonna tell me what Hawaiian Salt is, are ya’?

Gotcha…does it come with the lizard? My cat wants to know; she’s looking over my shoulder right now. She’s usually chasing cockroaches, so a lizard for her, that’s like a real treat.

that’s a gecko, man. They are good luck, don’t eat um.

Oh, right. California cats obey their owners.

Uh huh…

What does my cat care? Bad luck to eat the gecko? What…it’s gonna cost her a life?

Knock yerself out; hell, she’s got nine of 'em.

Howzit Keith, Hate to inform you but I'm sure it's a chameleon not a gecko. Got a lot of geckos running around my house and outside is full of chameleons. The chameleons are more aggressive and slowly outmumbering the geckos in Hi. I can remember when I first came to Hi. there were geckos and toads everywhere, now we hardly see any toads, has some thing to to with enviromental changes. In one house I lived in I saw the takeover by the chameleons over the geckos. When I first moved in to the house it was full of geckos and within 2 years there wasn't a gecko left but the house was now full of chameleons. Aloha, Kokua

hmm. I don’t doubt you for a moment. OK, let the cat loose then…

PS, there is one heck of a metaphor in your post…

Howzit Keith, On Maui they've found some non native hooded geckos that grow up to a foot long that they are worried about what effect they will have on other amphibians. The toads are the ones that have really been hurt. Used to be after a good rain storm the roads were full of them and it was impossible not to run them over, try to miss one and they would jump in front of the car like they were commiting suicide. Now you never see any on the roads, but I occasionally find one under leaves and brush in the yard.Aloha,Kokua

Kokua and Keith,

The lizard on the jar is neither a gecko or chamelion. It is called an anole. Like a chamelion it can change it’s color. They are native to Florida and the Carribean. They are sold as pets in other states and I’m sure will love to live in Hawaii at the expense of Hawaii’s sensitive native species.

Windog,

I am the lucky winner of the Hawaiian Sea Salt. My understanding is the Hawaiian salt is harvested by Hawaiians in the traditional manner and must be given away and not sold. It is orange in color, contains baby shrimp and other platonic organisms, is very salty, and is packed full of aloha. It taste good in guacamole, tambien. I give a pinch to friends when they come over in the spirit I recieved it and would be glad to mail you a pinch or two if you pm me an address.Mike

salt in question is from salt pond near hanapepe on Kauai island…better on fish than anything a healing substance for soaking cuts to alaying heat stroke from dehydration…put in oil when making popcorn…Alae salt has red soil /clay involved …ambrose…Kilohana canoe club fund raiser…

Howzit rooster, That anole looks just like the critters running around my yard. Thanks for the salt offer but no need since I buy it by the bag at the store. Like Ambrose said the red coloc is from the clay in the salt ponds and is very good for medicinal purposes. When I travel I always keep a bag with me just in case. Aloha,Kokua
