I’m ready to shape the rails of my hollow woodie. First I thought 50/50, rounded rails would be fine, but I’ve read they can’t stay high in the wave. so what kind of rails from nose to tail do you suggest? the board is 7’3’‘, 22’’ wide, single fin. thanks in advance.
Hated to see you left hanging. Sounds like a “standard” board, so go look at a board that is similar, and make your rails accordingly.
Good luck, peace, etc. Taylor E. Olson
Well, that’s exactly the reason I’m posting here. I have no chance to look at any other similar board, because there is no similar board here where I live. the only thing you see are thiny shorty thruster that people try to ride in 2’ to 4’ beach break waves. Sometimes it gets nice and over 6’, but maybe 8-10 times a year if lucky. thanks in advance. Jack
I am currently in the design stage of an 8’ single fin hollow wooden board as well and was planning on 50/50 rails.
I think you need to ask yourself if the majority of the waves you’ll be riding are 2-4 ft beach break, How often are you gonna need to be riding high on the wave?
I would honestly start shaping and do what feels right. If you dont like it build another one.
I’ve built 2 hollow boards now. the first one is 8’ and the other 6’9", both single fins.
I shaped 50/50 rails in the 8’ and it went really well. I didnt have any trouble getting high in the wave, infact it always tracks high. The 6’9" has down / eggy rails, but cant give any feedback as it will be getting its first test run this weekend once I glass the fin on tonight. I’ll keep you posted.
you guys have any pics of your boards to share? interesting to see what you’ve done.
