I have never used tints before but i am looking forward to using tints on my next board. I was thinking of making it red, yellow, and green. I was just wanting ideas on how to do this?
i suggest you get a few under your belt before attempting a tri color tint. Just do yellow and really work on a smooth even tint and strong lam job. once you’ve nailed that then try a green one. you will get frustrated… after figuring that out that, attempt a red tint. most likely you’ll end up with a few pink boards and some really ugly tints but at least you’ll be learning. then , years from now, you’ll have the skill to attempt this tri color board. you’ll probably grow out of your rasta phase before you can actually glass a board in a tricolor tint. but good luck!
Thanks for the advice. thats a very good idea. only started shaping recently and want to try new things out. I guess ill be doing single color tints for a while
pico gave sound advice… you could be a rational person, or… you could be a lunatic and go for it!
Test panels, test panels, test panels… Color is tricky, but not rocket science if you have an eye for it. Practice with your tints, or even paints, to get an idea of what combinations will give you what shades and intensities you’re looking for. Once you’ve figured that out, come on back and ask more questions.
If your laminating skills are good, it ups your odds dramatically.
What’s the worst that could happen? An ugly board? So what…
You can also do your colors on the foam rather than in the resin. If you really want to do a tint though, I agree with nj, go for it! It probably will turn out iffy but if its a personal board and you’re having fun theres really nothing to lose
