Ok, I know im not the only one who has encountered this problem, but on my board. The track pad is starting to peel off, how might I go about fixing this problem? Maybe like rubber cement? Possibly 5 min. epoxy, howa bout that pc-11 stuff like the epoxy putty that you mix and it comes out like peanut butter but only like white. thanks. corb.
contact cement is excellent. Get a good one though and follow the instructions. Also good for repairing tears on wetsuits. regards, Håvard
i recycled my old traction using super glue. works fine but by the time you heat it up,pull it off, glue it down, glue it down again(since it’s curling from the blow dryer) etc etc, you’re probably better off buying a new one.
Contact cement is the way to go. Super glue dries hard and gets brittle over time and eventually you’ll wind up reattatching it again. Contact cement is more flexible once it has dried and allows the pad to flex and stretch as the deck flexes and caves in with age. It takes a while to set really well (up to 24 hours depending on the variety), but I have yet to have a deck pad come back up after using it. Also, to avoid the “curling” when you remove your pad before reattatching it, don’t heat it up. Peel it up VERY slowly and if it sticks really back and starts to tear, use a razor blade to break the bond between the old pad and the deck (as if you were skinning a shark or deer), just be careful not to cut the pad. Good luck.
Where might i go about obtaining this mysterious ‘contact cement’. Surf shops? thanks. corb.
Howzit Corbin, Try a hardware store, craft store or variety store. The stuff is pretty common and easy to find. Aloha, Kokua
thanks.
Use an oxy-acetalene welding set-up. Try to weld the pad back to the board. Yes, it’s true that you could have a fire or even ruining your board, but you might just get a lot of melting, and that might change the shape of the rails or even the rocker, and then your board might rie unreal! You need to try it.
