hi mark !
when you mentioned your upcoming board was ‘fanta’ orange , i thought
…well…
WHY NOT make some ‘mountain dew’ green fins for it , eh !!! …
so , mate , here’s the progress , so far … [to be continued]…
“edit” button has gone nowadays ???
okay , here’s a coupla pics …
what kind of paint is it??
Aaaaaaaaaaggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh my eyes, my beautiful eyes, aaaagggggghhhhhhhhhhh. Mate that’s bright. Points awarded for assault on the peepers.
Very nice ben, love the colour!!. Looks awesome, and i think it would go well with the orange rails on my 7’10’'.
I finally got it wet yesterday morning. I was only out for 25 minutes, as i went past the beach after a horror 12 hour night shift. Gee, it doesnt take long to lose your paddle fitness, i was huffin n puffin, but thankfully still went ok, so i just need to get out more often from now on, which shouldnt be a problem at the moment. The board went good, still getting used to it, but i caught every wave i went for. Timing my turns on a longer board is a bit foreign, but i’ll get used to it.
it’s green pigment
it actually looks BRIGHTER in real life
i made two more [small] panels today ,
so , “if” you put in extra plugs and a fin box , you will have the 5 fin / single fin option on your “twinny” , mark … what do you reckon ?
i also did some “tri-colour” keels and trailers , too [magenta , white and blue , as per our phone conversation]…
… to be continued …
cheers !!
ben
Awesome ben, thankyou very much!!. Can’t wait to see more pics. Still only had one surf on it, just working too much, d’oh!!
…
no worries mark
hopefully i might get to cut them out today some time
you should see the magenta tint mini panels mate …real perdy haha !
cheers
ben
[still to be foiled and fine tuned …]
… to be continued …
Sweeeeet!!! Look unreal mate.
1 layer of clear laminating resin , 2 layers 6oz cloth ,
then green pigment for the remaining 38 layers of 6oz cloth …
[that’s not a fabric inlay , by the way…it’s a reflection of my spunky '70s design shower curtain / window curtain, …NICE , eh ?! ]
[still needing to be fine-tuned , and foiled…]
inside edge
[p.s. - bonus FULL avitar photo]…
hi again Mark !
… here’s one of the two fin panels i made using the tint you sent me , mate …
i’m tossing up between making either mini- runners , or else , mini-keels from these panels [to be used as side fins for your 7’10 egg , with your 7 1/2" back fin perhaps [uncanted] bonzer runners style ?? ]…
to be continued , when these have all been foiled and sanded .
[ plus i need to get the board done , with proboxes installed , to photograph them in , and to try them out in …roll on autumn and winter , and the end of daylight saving …yay !!]]
Awesome ben!!!. One “rule” i have with the boards i have made, is “any colour is better than white”, even if it means a dodgy looking spray. And BOY, do those panels have some colour!!, and they look sweet mate, keep up the good work.
Ben, some more pics. I swapped the green fin for a deeper, more raked, thinner tipped fin. Went out after night shift this morning, and it made a huge difference, when i wasn’t nosediving. I keep trying to sit inside and catch waves like my twin keel, turning and popping into the wave late, but on a longer board it dont work too well hahaha.
This fin felt much easier to turn than the green one, it was a little stiff, though the black one seemed to want to turn.
The old
The new.
Are you keen for the green fin ben??, its a touch over 7’’ deep and 5 1/4’’ base, with 2 1/2’’ rake. Its a little stiff, but you could modify it as you see fit. Let me know if you’re keen mate, and when i get the router off my mate, and finish the plugs for my twinny, i’ll send it over with the router bit and jigs.
Cheers
sure !
thanks mark , i’d love it !!
i’ll swap you a set of rainbow twinnies for it [and some matching trailers / twinzers , if you can use them …maybe the twinnys in your twinny , and the matching sideys in your egg ? [the tricky bit would be …making a matching finbox single fin for them ]
here , pre-foiling and fine-tuning , are some magenta tint one-tabbers, for use in head high surf with the single keel 9’4 mal…
Hi Mark !
… the keels have now been foiled [the tabs just need thinning and reshaping to fit probox slots. ]
So, when you have the twinny routed and proboxed , please let me know , and these , and the rainbow twinnys , will be sent your way …
cheers mate !
ben
Ben ben ben, they are looking sick!!!. You have given me the shove i needed!!. Im gunna try to pick up the router tomorrow, or at least before the weekend is out, so i can get them done, and send the stuff over mate.
I am soooooo keen to get this twinny done, if for no ther reason than to try those beauties out!!!
Just talked to my mate, im picking the router up tomorrow arvo!.
Probox installation coming up!
righteo then …
fins will come soonish … once you’ve finished the install…
