Here is my experince. I have been riding a 7’4" semi gun for the last few years based on Dave Parmenters “Widowmaker” design which is just a 2 + 1. I really like this board and intend to play with this concept some more. Here is the fin set up that I used on this board. Really a great down the line board and Single is 8 1/2"deep, 5 3/4" base and is placed 6 3/8" from the tip of the tail Side bites are 2 1/2" in depth, 3 1/4 base. These fins are placed 12 1/2" up from the tip of the tail, and or 1 1/8" off the rail. Also, I just saw an egg shaped board in shop with 2 + 1 setup. I think that you it looks like you want samller side bite fins than the standard side bites for a long board. Hope that this helps.
Herb, do you have any advice on fin placement, how far up, toe-in?? Thanks > for the help, Scott… What Chris has put down sounds good. toeing/just past the nose …cant, say 3 or 4 degrees should do it.I made a stinger for my self, and a gun say 5-6 years ago using a 2+1 set-up. I found that you can very the fins alot. My stinger outboard fins were 15" up and my center box started at 7" from the tips, the board was 7’-0" x 21".IT WORKED GREAT! So good that someone walked up to me at Oldman’s and bought it off me CASH! small side fins are the key,I used a Greenough 7.5" lowratio/high aspect fin in it(a rake)for the center.Herb
Herb, Thanks for the feedback. I have always though that I had too much toe in on my board. How much degree toe in would you go for in a gun 2 + 1 setup?
Herb,>>> Thanks for the feedback. I have always though that I had too much toe in > on my board. How much degree toe in would you go for in a gun 2 + 1 setup? …Chris,I have two 12’ lengths of heat treated springsteel that I use for my toeing angles. One is half inch wide, the other is 1" wide…FOR A GUN; I would toe out past the nose maybe 6" to a foot.I stopped using the measuring way of toeing because it can change alot with; distance from the rail, how far up from the tail etc. THERE’S NOTHING WRONG WITH DOING it with measurements, but I think I get a better toe my way.I believe J.C. USES a straight edge also?Too much toe causes TOO much drag it turns okay if you like staying in one spot!It also makes paddling suck too. My CANTs are @ 3-6 degrees, for a gun 3-4 is best.,aloha,Herb.
Wow, thanks for all the help guys!! Scott.
