re: hollow concrete surfboard

Thanks for the anecdote, Bill.

I think Diff shaped for Barland in '69 or '70. Here’s a board he made for the current french champion back then. It was made in a friend’s garden and Diff found a peacock’s feather that he laminated under the glass. I eventually became the owner of that board and even rode it in the 1970 french championship and took 5th place (there must have been 6 guys competing…)

I still own the board and will keep it forever. Here it is:

Google “ferro cement” it’s been used to build super tough boat hulls. If you built it in two halves and figured out how to get the halves to stay together without cracking, you could maybe get it together at about 100 lbs.No, make that about 150lbs, almost forgot about the weight of the rebar.

re: hollow concrete surfboard.

I’d like to see Andy Irons break one of THOSE over his head , now he’s lost the world title .

Cecil

A concrete surfboard may be close to that line of impossibility, but A hallow clay board is probably entirely doable…Dose any one have A 6 foot kiln?

yeh concrete why didnt i think of that

you could use gravel and bitumen for the grip

youd need a kevlar rashie though

with cast iron fins

thats for chipfish cuz he doesnt like light boards apparently

gets blowed off the wave if its too light.

or maybe good for tow in

probably get haemeroids if you sit on it to long though.(i heard that happens if you sit on cold concrete)

could be good for underwater training ,all you have to do is take it into the water

I guess youd have a good argument for not wearing legropes.

if you sold em to all the kooks/begginers at your home beachbreak, you could thin out the crowd and build an artifical reef at the same time

just make sure you wear your helmet

yes…

and you could squash a boogie boarder between each slab of concrete , then vacuum bag for a tighter bond !

… you know , kill two birds with one stone [well , slab , anyway], so to speak …

good stuff silly !!

ben

i think that x mafia guys ride them a bit as well

ex-mafia ??

i thought they would be INSIDE them …the shoes sticking out of the artificial reef ARE a bit of a giveaway , I suppose …

don chipporelli

or you could paint them green with a red hat

and stick them in your garden

…just like your avatar photo / self-portait

ha just changed it

haha …

Nice try , but … I already anticipated THAT one, buddy ! I’ve become an avatar collector over the last whatever …

“HERE it is !! …”

hehe

ben

my god …the head just became life sized !!!

[now , feed MY [old] avatar …

…or else !]

Concrete is strong under compression, weak under tension. Prestress the concrete in compression (rather than using rebar in the normal manner) to increase the strength.

Dood, I am going to use rubber concrete to give it ‘Flex’. Maybe mix in a little asphalt or tar to give it a the black carbon look.

I’ll use plywood molds to give it wood grains like freeway struts, and paint it like balsa. Sick!!

c’mon guys… i’m serious about his… this may be my big break in the surfboard industry…

“c’mon guys… i’m serious about This…”

yep , I can tell from your avatar photo.

"this may be my big break in the surfboard industry… "

well , if the board hits someone in the head , I don’t know which will be breaking first …

free press , anyway …

"the (?first?) lawsuit involving a hollow concrete surfboard " perhaps ?
