I vividly recall sitting out on in the water on my board with a friend in 1965. It was a glorious day and we thought we had the world by the tail. I mentioned to him, “Man, I hope we’re still doing this when we’re 60”. Of course that was an out of body abstract thought way back then, as no one lived to be that freeking old. Well, this morning I paddled out with great friends into the deep Hawaiian blue on my newly completed board and caught some nice glassies on my 60th b-day. Low and behold, life can still be great when you’re an old geezer!
Welcome to the club! As a doctor friend once commented, ‘‘uncommon longevity, is a privilage accorded very few.’’ Beats the alternative, eh? Now, set your sights on 70.

Have your ears been burning? I just sent links to your website to an old friend and pointed out the beautiful wooden boards and fins you have made. He agreed… the Koa reversed template Phil Edwards fin is a thing of beauty.
Happy Birthday and congratulations on making it to 60. What a great blessing to be able to paddle out and enjoy the ocean, good weather, and good surfing on such a milestone.
And remember what George Burns said when he was in his 80’s: “I never eat health foods. At my age, I need all the preservatives I can get.”
It’s best to not put age in a box! The question might be; “how old would you be if you did not know how old you were”? All the best Aloha to you on your birthday. I think that must have been you I saw the other day ripping it up!
