Recomendations for board bag? Zipper Reliability?

I would appreciate any recomendations on a manufacturer.  The zippers seem the first to go.  I have a recent ProLite that bites and I will have to spend more $ to replace the zipper.  And a 15 year old Trac Top that is still working just fine.  I also have a “Only Moonlight” made in the US that seems to be holding up well.

Who makes a consistently good one?

All the best.

Greg,

Think you might already be referencing this company i your post, but I have a great 2 board day bag taco from this company, great construction, really well made, zippers are like silk

zippers : plastic good; zinc bad…corrodes.

The zippers are usually one or the other. Check the actual zipper head , not the teeth.

If the zipper head is zinc, but the teeth are plastic…no go!

Those are some good looking board bags! Thanks for posting that link!

Komunity Project - Charlie Triple or Double are my favorite, none corrosive zippers, good padding, no wheels and fitted design. If you like wheels they have the Delta model. I too have a Pro Lite triple longboard and the only thing that sucks about is the zipper which in my opinion is a main point, thinking of selling it.

Thanks for that link…I’m totally getting my next board bags from them! Can’t beat buying local for fair prices!

yes.  Midnight.  Top drawer  equipment.   Funny you mentiond Komunity.  I have one brand new and  the zipper is deffective. The rest of the bag seems  good though.  Anyone  having issues with DaKine?

Not trying to be an annoyance, just thought I'd give a mention of Desitination Surf here: http://www.dsurf.com/

I have a nice 8 foot day bag and its rather old, has held up well, and zipper is good, not quiet as smooth as Midnight, but the bag is significantly older, but no snags, no breaks, very satisfied with the Destination bag, no tears in the bag material..zipper still opens and shuts with ease, zipper teeth are fine, no broken zipper teeth..zipper is plastic, heavy gauge if I am correct..kinda guessing on that one...good bag imo

Just wanted to mention it.

I’ve had 5 DaKine board bags over the years, still have 2.  Never had a zipper fail on me!

Hey Greg,

Try Wavetribe.  I bought one of his bags.   Zipper failed.  He sent me a new one no questions asked and changed zipper manufacturer.

I have had problems with zippers on ProLites in the past. Easy fix if it’s the zipper pull, itself. Took mine to a sail loft and the woman installed two new heads for $20. Cheaper than buying a new bag, for sure. I also agree on the metal vs plastic. Salt water and metal zippers don’t mix, unless the zipper is brass and that adds $$$.

+1 midnite.

great product …great customer service

I have a nice 9’0" Da Kine for sale in the Surfshop. (Shameless plug, but a good deal!)

I have a white dakine bag with the thick and wide black plastic zipper for over ten yrs now and it still works great, the sholder strap is plus too. If I had the dough and I guess the dough to travel I’d get a Soma air bag you should see the demo on youtube…crazy.

I have both Midnight and Wave Tribe bags, both are very well made.  I’ve had no problems with either of them.
