Is your plan to laminate the top and bottom just short of the rails, and then use a separate band of hemp for the rails? Please let us know how it goes. For reference, when I did the laminations on my hemp longboard I used a standard cutlap technique for both decks. It required me to do release cuts every 2-6 inches. This may be a better way to go.

Didn’t even think of that … I’m just free lapping it … will probably have much sanding to do to get it to blend together properly. And of course a solid color rail band to hide the transition.

This stuff is surprisingly stout. I used Kevlar shears to cut it, it was easier to deal with …
