Hi, I’m not Tom, but i can tell you what i paid to set up for a small productions. I built a template like Herb posted under tools. I use a standard Plunge Router. You can also get the bits, at Lowes or what ever building supply store. You can make your template out of two pieces of 1/8" aluminum, dril four holes, and tap and tread. This will keep the jig centered, for when you router the holes. You can tape or hot glue the template to the board, then start cutting. This is how i install my boards with the RED X fin system. I don’t think they have a kit yet, but Tom is the man to talk to. I can’t wait till they do get a kit, but what i have works fine. I hope this helps. You need, one Router type router, two bits, template two piece, and a way to to hold the template in place. Later, Stephen Berube P.S. You might pay 50-100 bucks for everything.

Sorry, Herbs template is in the Fin sections. I built the same template > and it works fin. We have an installation kit. But, it is geared towards production. Herb, Timmy Patterson and I have been bouncing around ideas for a low volume kit. But, we kept coming back to the fact that the production kit is much more goof proof. Herb has even decided to get the production jig, router and allignment tools after he designed his jig. The jig is $65.00 without the vaccume pump. If you have a router the 7" adapter plate is $20.00. The allignment tools and installation instructions I’ll send you a set for free. Just e-mail me your vitals

Just e-mail me your vitals …Tom’s right, buy the factory jig,my jig is touchy, and takes damage easily.I converted my Ofishl jig and that works too,but it much easier, and will cost you alot less pain to just go with The Red-X set-up. …Tom, getting any? It’s been good!Did Tim contact you? …Tom,by-the-way,I like either the X-7s all the way around(bigger days) or X-1 sides, and a X-7 center(moderate, steep waves) or just X-1s all the way around for small surf.I like all my fin templates in the composite material.Herb
Tom, just what is the vacuum pump used for? Is it necessary for the installation and if so, what cost does it add? Also, is it a regular plunge router that is used? Thanks for the info. Been watching all the post regarding RedX, could be time to try’em. ed

I’ll definitely be there tomorrow. Surf was great on Wenseday. And the talent in the water is definitely worth checking out when your done. Mick, Andy and Taj have been just blowing it up. Spent yesterday at ASR. Rusty and AST were both showing Red X Boards. Glad that you like the glass filled nylon fins. They are the back bone of our line. Everything else is just jewelry. We are a couple weeks away from adding the Bonzer program. In small waves I like the X-1’s as well. I’m cureently testing X-2 Carbon Cored fins in not exactly small conditions. So, far I have really liked them. But, you know…different strokes for different folks and we’re trying have something for everyone. ed, The vaccume pump is an efficient way to secure the jig to the board without taping it down. It’s $100.00 and you need 70 to 80 psi of airpressure to make it work. The Router that we sell is a Makita 3612 for $220.00. They are robust and have an integrated brake to stop the bit at the end of each route. The jig keys off the base plate and if you have a 7" base plate you can make most any router work. But, this combination is the most efficient. Thanks for the support and interest!
Tom, does the install kit come with the router bits? and will i be ok to install w/o the vacuum pump until i can pay for the vacuum system?
Tom, does the install kit come with the router bits? and will i be ok to > install w/o the vacuum pump until i can pay for the vacuum system? …I believe the bit is sold separately. As far as the vac system ,it’s not a need to item ,you can tape the jig down. The vac makes it easier to use.Herb
