Have a friend with an old and intriguing log that I can’t seem to find info on. We are located in Nags Head, NC. The label is Reef surfboards, it has a triple laminated center stringer, wood bock tail, and D-fin made entirely of fiberglass. The serial number printed on it under the label is 3927, with a hand written pencil number under that of 2732. The board looks typical of the early to mid 60’s era and it’s in pretty good shape, making it even more interesting.
Apologize in advance if I missed an already existing discussion in my search. Greatly appreciate it if anyone can offer up some history on this label.
If the board is the same as I recall, Reef Surfboards were pop-outs from the mid 60’s. A cheap entrance to the surf scene of the time. Check for matt glass and routed-in stringer. The glass and resin used weren’t top quality and the board should be quite brown by now. Custom Surf Shop in Lavallette NJ sold a bunch of them at the time. Post a picture if you can.
Yep, that’s the logo. I’ll get a picture tomorrow, if it were mine I’d post one now, but that logo leaves little question that you are correct. Thank you. I’ll try to get some detail on the serial numbers. They seem to be the only interest piece left on the story
