Just wondering…I’ve heard mention that clark has seconds…Is this true?
When I went to Foam-ez in OC they said they didn’t sell any seconds…
How do you go about buying these?

Pretty sure you have to go directly to Clark… i tried to get them to ship some rejects in a box for me but they wouldnt…
the nice folks at Basham’s in San Clemente usaully have a few…
Every one of my personal boards is from a second. Clark doesn’t sell chemically unstable rejects, just ones with cosmetic flaws, that’s what decals are for
do you contact Clark dirrectly for 2nds?
do they sell them just to pro shapers or can the home builder get 2nds too?
thanks

In Ca. order from Mitch’s or Basham’s
Does the Melbourne, FL Clark Foam sell them too? What are the odds of finding a “reject” of the blank you want, as long as it’s a common mold?
Back in the mid to late 70s I used to just go directly to the Clark Foam factory here in So. Cal. and they would always have a few blanks that they said were defective for sale. They’d sell them for 5-10 bucks each. I could never really find major defects in them and they worked for me. Sound like from a few posts here they they now let guys like Basham have them to sell?
I can’t find anything on Basham’s… anyone have any contact info?
Is this the right Basham’s…

Yup… that’s it. Thanks 4est
The issue with Clark Foam is that they create very few Seconds/Rejects these days or what they consider to be of second/reject quality! It’s hard to order a specific blank as a Second/Reject since you might wait months for one to come through. We do get Seconds/Rejects from time to time but they go extremely fast. Clark Foam used to put on a “fire sale” where they sold all the accumilated Seconds/Rejects but since there are relatively few these days they don’t have a posted sale. Seconds/Rejects usually sell for 10-20% less than First Quality blanks. Getting the Second/Reject blank your looking for can be hit or miss. Hope this helps. Good luck!
One of the guys in Melbourne told me they don’t get them. They discount ones that are damaged in shipping but that’s very rare.
I don’t think they would spend the money to ship something they’re not making top dollar for.
Why would you want to buy a reject blank? Big ol blow out holes, and hard veiny looking pours. Good luck on doing a nice tint job. All your doing is saving a couple of bucks. One of the reasons were all here making boards is because were all cheap bastards. But to save $10-$20 is kind of starting to split hairs. Save your money on cheap sand paper (Harbor Freight 100 pcs 100 grit $4.99), but don’t go cheapo on Blanks, wrong resin, gloss, cloth, paint, and oh yeah TAPE. Make the best board you possibly can.

Cheap sandpaper?? I buy the BEST sandpaper I can find, I HATE clogs after 30 seconds!!!
At my volume, I get an uncut second for 38 bucks, toss in a bass stringer for about 3.50$, with 2 bucks of resin and acetone, etc. I get to feed my kids for an extra day, it is worth it to me, the flaws are always visible and I seldom can’t shape them out
Jim Phillips is the master salvage guy.My first board was built by Jim from a kit (circa 1964) that I had ordered. It had no stringer so Jim and I went to the Honolulu dump and scrounged up a 12 foot redwood 1x8 and carried for miles on a Honda 50 motorike. No precut rocker in those days…we glued it up and he rough planed the protruding stringer with a drawknife and hand plane.I love dumps but now there is Federal Law prohibiting you from scrounging.Go figure that out? First off they are running out of landfill space and now you can’t remove anything.I’m ranting cause I went to the dump yesterday and saw a cherry steel tool cabinet with around twenty ball bearing drawers and its gonna get buried.(it even had the key)damn.
Those were the shipping crates for helo blades, just getting tossed, replacement parts for a small skirmish in an unheard of place, Indo-China
Actually it’s pretty good sand paper, but if you trying to remove heavy material with light grit you’ll always dump a lot of paper in a hurry. And my local dump they make you wear a hard hat and no kids under 16 yrs. What a bummer, can’t take the 5yr old to see the big CAT 3208-BMF-007 earth compactor, big ol’ huge steel wheels smashing fridges, box springs, whatever else.
