Remember that reverse D fin thread? Bill T, David F?

A very good review on that thread.

Where is the Swaylocks thread on fins like this? Anybody save it?

Reversal of normal fin at trailing edge outline gives Area versus tip Drag as hold factor…with more drive?

FOund another pic on a Japanese website:

I think this is it (sorry couldn’t insert a link): http://www.swaylocks.com/forum/gforum.cgi?post=341730;search_string=phil%20reverse%20d;#341730

I have it book marked - I’m interested in Bill’s original full-size version. Someday I had hoped to make my own fin for a 9’ 6" longboard.

I still have the original template. I gave it to Fins Unlimited, several years ago. It fits a 10 1/2’’ box. I’m sure they will make one for you. Spend the extra money, and get a wood core. It looks great.

Thanks Bill,

I saw your same suggestion on another post - good to know they have your template & that there is an option. I’ll email them & see what they say.

I guess that’s it–I didn’t remember the discussion being so pointless. The only thing interesting is David F’s comments alluding to the performance when sized down in a multi-fin setup.

This is interesting though: http://www.google.com/patents?id=PdSpAAAAEBAJ&printsec=abstract&zoom=4&dq=takayama+fins#PPA3,M1

Dontcha think?

There was another thread I had book marked: http://www.swaylocks.com/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=186771;page=1;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=25;guest=20262527

Can you tell I was thinking of making a Phil Edwards style longboard with a big old D fin on it…

Now that’s interesting–not long on user reviews, but more interesting. I like Dave F’s outrage, and then you go and Google Takayama and Fins and you find his submission in January 08 and the patent approved in like June. Bogus.

That said, if they work, I want.

“Rudders?” Someone correct me if I’m wrong–but I’d say all fins are rudders. You’d need to research rudders and surfboard fins and tell me how theyre so different.
