Does anyone have experience removing those tacky logos and graphics from wetsuits? That is without damaging the wetsuit itself.
220 grit wet sand with super soft pad
Really, or is this joke? I’ll try it on a small spot. I was considering nail polish remover as well.
dude what do you think???
LMAO!!!
AAAAaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh…haaaaaaaaa…haaaaaaaaaaa…!!!
Whatcha do Anchovy, rip off someone’s wettie? Why would you want to remove it?
Just color over with a black sharpie.
Because I don’t wish to be a billboard. The manufacturers don’t pay me to wear their gear…I pay to purchase the product but it is almost impossible to find a wetsuit without graphics on the leg, the chest, the back, the arms, etc…
Wouldn’t help. My O’neill is black on black, so is my Body Glove. Come to think of it, so is my Hotline. And you can still read all the logos. DAMN, guess I’m still stuck in the all black wettie era. Maybe I’ll get one of those Barney Superman suits next winter.

Seriously, with the materials modern wetsuits are made of you want to keep solvents and chemicals away from it. From what I learned over the past year they aren’t designed to be terribly durable to begin with (certainly not like bombproof wetsuits of decades past. The tradeoff is massive improvement in function and fit. Physical abrasives will also seriously decrease longevity.
I feel your pain about some of the logos. During some eras I enjoyed very bright suits, or perhaps I should say got some private laughter out of riling up wetsuit color commanders at certain regions. Being walking branded billboards doesn’t really do it for me, but on the bright side we are not so totally pimped as to look like NASCAR drivers…yet.
If it really sticks in your throat, check out custom options both from custom wetsuit houses and established manufacturers. Otherwise I’d probably just live with it until the next one, while finding out how to get what I want next time.
An acquaintance of mine is sponsored by Oneill and last time he was in Japan they did some sort of laser scan on him followed by custom laser cut wetsuit panels for a personalized fit. He was pretty psyched until he got it and the color scheme was as follows:
I have always pondered such a venture.
If only we could get the logos off before we bought them. You would probably save 300 bucks
Let me know how you go as it will answer a life long query of mine
anchovy,
Does your board have a logo? Whether a “Name” brand or your own?
Have you blotted it out yet? Better get on that too!
How about your vehicle? Logos on that? Any stickers there? Get on that too…
Do you wear tee shirts with any kind of graphics on them?
If you bought your wetsuit because it was the best fit you could find and was loose and warm and worked great, wouldn’t you tell your buds that it was the way to go…just like your board…?
You buy the best tools to do the job right…if you have, it shows.
Just go surfing and have as much fun doing it as you can and don’t get hung up on trivial crap.
Pete
hey pete…
i sandblasted my bike frame and had it powdercoated… no logos.
i restored an old vw bus and didn’t put any emblems on it…
i make my own surfboards… no logos.
i only buy blank tee shirts.
i bought a seam ripper from a fabric store so i could get the patches off board the board shorts i buy from Costco…
when i have my ladder in my truck sometimes i pull it out and scrape surf stickers off the publics signs at the beach parks where i surf…
one time my buddie and i dropped a stack of boards that we just built at a surfshop that we did business with, we handed the owner a stack of perfectly clear stickers because on a previous visit he hassled us about not having any stickers…
i use to take a sharpe to my wetsuit logos when i lived in Ca.
toooooo each his own…
Custom suits, made to order. I didn’t know what a suit that fit felt like until I got measured then fitted the glued up suit, then tailored.
And you can match your board color with your suit!
Ian
Funny you should mention that -
See, O’Neill does a heavy discount …or at least did…for surf shop management, namely people like me. And that’s fine, but when I got a 5/4 hooded out of them , the damn thing was an iridescent green on black, the green being as bright and ughhhly as a fire engine in LA county.
I was asked if the thing had a dimmer switch - i sold it shortly after
hope that’s amusing
doc…
G’day mate, I’d be happy to make you some fitting gear. Just send me your measurements.

I never tried something like that, but till I know, these logos are a kind of thermo_adherent sticker. Maybe if you heat them, they will start to get off. It is just a suggestion…
