Repair or Restore?

Hola all,

Quick question on the best way to go repairing/restoring this board I found in Phoenix, AZ.

Q: should I repair or restore the couple of rail dings this board has. They are not bad but I am not sure this particular board is worthy of a “restoration” or should I just take it to Joe Roper in San Diego and have him fix it up to ride.

Thanks for your imput.

Thing looks brand new. Where’s the dings? Since it’s a Hambone I’d fix it as perfect as possible.

Lokbox,

It’s about as new as it can be for what looks like an 80s board. I haven’t seen colors like that on a deck since those days. There are 1 or 2 small cracks along the rails. They aren’t very big but, if I do take it out in the water, they should be fixed so as not to leak into the foam. Because so little work has to be done, I am leaning towards a “restoration” at this point.

I just put this board up for auction on Ebay if anyone is interested. It will be available for pick-up in San Diego after the auction to save on shipping from AZ. Thanks

Howzit fryeglider, Just saw Bill today and told him about the board being posted here. He said tell the guy to put on ebay,it could go for around $2000. You must have read his mind.Aloha,Kokua

kokua,

I must have been. Thanks for the information. I have decided to add world wide shipping to the listing to open the auction to more potential buyers. I originally brought the board with us to San Diego so my daughters friend would have something to ride. I figured if it didn’t sell, we would just ride it and take it home. It looks like he will be using a rental. Ha! Thanks again. Fryeglider

23 hours until the auction ends. Should be interesting to see if Bill was right about what the board will go for. I, for one hope he’s right.

Howzit fryeglider, Has the bidding reached your price expectations or the reserve, that's what matters. You have to know bill to understand him, he loves to expect the most from his boards. One thing that might make the board worth more is it was a Bear board before Milius took the name away from Bill. This may very well make it a classic which means more valuable.Aloha,Kokua

kokua,

Thanks for your insights. I have a fair reserve on the board and will be happy to get that or a little more. All the “real action” happens at the end of the auction so I’m not too worried about it. I even fielded a question from, of all places, Ohio regarding the board. Tell Mr. Hamilton I will let him know the final outcome as soon as it’s all over.

Well folks,

The auction failed to reach my modest reserve price. kokua, tell B.H. he’s a tad high for the market as of today. Anyway, thanks to all who chimed in. It was fun.

ps. 1st 800.00 bucks gets it. Love to find a new home here in CA
