Resin Pigment Suppliers

Hey guys, Just wondering where to get some good resin pigments at. I have bought from foamez and surf source, but am looking for a supplier with more color options so i don’t have to mix so many colors together. Thanks!

Honestly?   I think the best source is Fiberglass Hawaii in Ventura for price and selection.  Call them and ask for Gigi or Wade.  They have a website, but it is easier to just call 'em.

I agree. Fiberglass Hawaii has the best selection and highest quality pigments I’ve used.  Give them a ring.

Hozit McDing, The owner of Fiberglass Hawaii is always looking for the best quality for a good price and that is just one of the reasons they are so successful as a supplier. Going to the shop is like going to a candy store for me. I was there talking with him one day and he had all these rolls of masking tape on his desk and I asked him about them.He said he was trying to find a tape that was almost as good as 3M 233 so he could have another brand to sell the weekend builder who didn't want to buy a lot of 3M 233or 233+ and he found one and I tried it because he sent me a freebie. The only problem was they didn't make it any wider than 3/4" so it was not used for every application. I now that all the pigments I bought from them worked just great and could hardly tell the difference form the old stuff we had in the 60's with all the lead in it. Aloha,Kokua

As for the 233 3m masking tape, its all in where you buy it from.  I’m getting 3/4 for $3 a roll locally from an auto supply company that sells primarily to auto paint and body shops.

It seems to me that there should be an easier way to come up with pigments.  Like using a solvent mixed with Rit dye or something like that.  What is the base used in pigments and tints???

Yeah Ted tries hard and has done a good job with both Fiberglass Hawaii and US Blanks.  Of course he's got great people(at least the ones I know) .  Funny thing about tape;  I've done all kinds of research and experimentation with tape for the same reason explained to you by Ted;  To find something for a reasonable price that will work.  Especially for backyarders and small shops.  I found three or so that are down in the $3.50 --------$5.00 a roll for 1 1/2".   Then a glasser tells me he's been using a 3M tape that cost $2.50 a roll for years.  Go figure.  Should have asked him first.

Howzit McDing, Back in the days there wasn't a 3M 233 tape and we used 2050 but these days it just isn't quite the same as it used to be. It was like 233 is now and why they changed it only 3M knows. One of the tapes that ted has is called American and it holds up pretty good for a short time. I used an even cheaper tape for paint work and I think FH charged me $15 for a roll of 9 and that was 1".Aloha,Kokua

Don't know their current status, but Hasting's Plastics in Santa Monica has a pretty big selection. I read here they were either closing or re-locating. Hopefully the latter.
