Greeting, On my next board, a longboard, I am considering a full board yellow tint using uv resin. My question is this…can I free lap the cloth or should I do cut laps? Thanks to all.
Lap cuts only with piggys.Herb
Unless you want the rails to have a very jagged color edge to them you will need to tape off and do yourself up some finely trimmed lap cuts my friend.
Where the cloth overlaps, when using tinted resin (and also Volan cloth) you will have a darker shade. This is why cutlapping is used.

This is what you can achieve with a free lap and resin tint!!!
Perfection!!!
Cut lap is best.Only problem is when using UV resin you may have trouble cutting the lap with a razor blade if you cure it too much.I don’t have lights so I would run the board outside and cure the bottom.Next I would flip it and just barely cure the laps.Next I carried it inside and cut the laps/Lastly it goes outside for the final lap cure. It’s quit comical to watch in action seeing as I am a semi cripple fat old geezer.Especially with a ten foot log.
