Resin-X for bagging veneers? Maybe mixing modulus in Epoxy?

I’m getting ready to bag bamboo veneers on an EPS blank.  I’m wondering if anyone knows anything about using Resin-X with wood veneers?   I saw an entry on the Nine-Lights blog where Matt (?) used Resin-X on a Balsa/EPS combo (trying hard not to use the “compsand” word) but i don’t know how it held up.

I’m particularly interested in any issues with adhesion or changes in ride quality compared to epoxy.  One thing I found with my last project is that the Solarez vinylester will adhere just fine with the wood veneer.  I used epoxy to bag the veneer on and then used the VE to laminate/hotcoat and PE to finish.  The epoxy seeped onto the deck because I was using a closed cell PU blank and a bit too much resin for the vacuum bag, but after sanding the VE seemed to adhere to the deck anyway.

I was also considering using a higher flex epoxy like RRs 2020 or even 2040 to bag on and laminate over the bottom veneer to loosen it up, and then hotcoat/finish with a higher modulus epoxy resin to get the hardness.  Anyone have any insight or advice on this?

Use Kwik Kick.  Works great and you can get it out of the bag quick.

Hey gdaddy,

I've used ResinX in the past for bamboo veneers. The only problem I had was how sticky the stuff is, which made it difficult to reposition the veneer when I place it on the board.

Now I use Quik Kick for everything - from veneer to glosscoat. Much easier to move the veneers when I put them on crooked (every time)
