Hey guys, Has anyone had problems getting fin boxes or lease plugs to set up when thickening your glass with cabosil? I didn’t use much, but seemed to take a long time to gel and a day later, the stuff is not real strong???Help!! (Yes, I used MEKP in the mix, approx 1%)…I also used white resin tint, does this cause problems in catalyzing the polymerization rxn? Thanks for any and all help!

I am not sure about the polymerization properties personally. I have heard that when installing plugs of any sort, to use pure laminating resin and go a little extra “hot” in your resin:MEK ratio. Cabosil/pigment combos have been used for eons without a huge problem. My hunch is you didn’t use enough MEK or it is old–although I have used some pretty old stuff and had it work. ***When working with resins, also pay attention to humidity and air temperature.

You under catylized, the manufacturers data calls for 2% by volume. so you used only half the recommended MEK and they are way under for what we deem normal amounts.
