Resize an outline of a board

Im wanting to replicate but resize a 6'2 by 22 quad - it is basically a dumpster diver on roids. I want to keep the outline but come down in size to 5'10 and slim it up a fraction - maybee 21, but at first i will leave the shape at 22 wide and see how it feels under the arm, perhaps I might size it down to 21 pending if I feel it is too wide.

I love wider boards but have a trip to the mentawis in May and 22 might be a fraction to wide for there?

The wide point is too the front of the board - my idea was to trace my outline using the tail as my start spot tracing either side onto my eps blank going up the rails until it changes curve direction back to the nose. Next step will be to move the board and line the nose on to the blank at a measured 5'10 mark and trace again. This will leave the outline of the board to be where the curves meet?

Does this sound ok as last attempt at this although sounding straight forward should have been posted on the F_*& ups post....somehow my tail ended way off the mark..

21" is prob perfect for a wide short board…last time I drew my plan shape I did my front half with a bendie rular from wide-point around 12 down nose point to nose. And from wide-point to 12" up tail-then make a short template for tail section. But this was good on a standard type narrower plan shape. For wider I think we can do same thing, but may have difficulty on wide nose or tail end curves? I may draw by hand if I have to at these points, but my bendie rular I got at home depot I think will do it!? We’ll see. Good luck on your shape/board.

I would use the tail end up to the widepoint

then do the nose with a bendy flexy stick bent around the 12" mark to the widepoint

that will make it fit together

tail is most important

I agree with Ken . Wide piont back takes pirority.

Thanks guys, making my blank up tommorow and will utilise your suggested techniques.

rakeflip,

i seem to recall reading somewhere, not sure where or who to credit (rusty p. maybe) that as a general rule of thumb, for every inch change (+/-) in length, a 1/8 in change (+/-) in width will keep the curves of the outline very close to the original template you are trying to scale up or down.  if you want to keep the wide point in the same relative location, halve the measurement (+/-) of the change in length…
