Restoration - Ugly question

I’m currently restoring a Rusty board from the 80’s and while most of the board is OK, there is one really ugly ding repair on it that needs a fair bit of work.

My first idea is to cut out the effected (infected) area and replace it with a fairly large peice of foam… then sand it back. The grunge seems to go about halfway into the deck of the board.

Any other ideas on how to deal with it? Is there a better way to fill a large hole like this? Any ideas on fillers that may be suitable without being difficult to work into the right shape?

you already stripped the sucker

cut the wedge of foam

put it in.

I personally recomend

not too much glue so you dont have a seam of glue

that affects the shaping by leaving a bump in the rail

a couple of interior gobs of glue will hold it swell

my favorite is zap glue

but I am fast becoming a zealot.

just dont get the fumes in your eyes

It makes a cool noise when you glue foam.

after the finish shape you can fill the seam

with resin and q-cell when you glass

…ambrose…

oh yeah it aint gonna be a rusty no more

give yerself all the credit

now its just a blank
