Restoring a 60's popout (or just making it rideable)

So I may have found an old 60’s popout to ride on these oh so small summer days that we have on the east coast. Been looking for one for awhile now. However, it has some damage. There is a split up by the nose with exposed brown foam and there are some other dinged spots as well. My knowledge of ding repair is limited to using one of those ding kits on a modern board (yeah lame I know).

Now all I want to do is make this thing rideable. It doesnt have to be pretty. Assuming I can get it for a decent price, would it be worth repairing? And I guess the big question is how do I repair it? What materials do I use? I tried searching the archives but couldnt find what I was looking for. If there is a thread detailing this, then please let me know.

Thanks.

If I were you I’d go here:

and buy this book:

to start with.

It depends on the size and severity of the wound, but as a general overview, you’ll want to sand everything down very smoothly, probably fill the gash with a resin/q-cell slop, then re-glass the wound and sand until smooth.

You’ll learn best by doing and you’ll find that you’ll have a very steep learning curve. Also, if you have any friends who know how to repair dings, invite them over and put them to work. But make sure you buy them pizza or tacos or something.

Thanks for the tip Josh.
