Is anyone making a fish fin and box, in the 6 to 7 inch base range. I like the Future box for my EPS/epxoy boards, however the biggest fin Future makes is 5.5 in base. I would like to get away from “glass on” for my fish. So I want to know, have I am missing something -glassed on vs. box for ease on construction.
Fins Unlimited and Chinook have been making inside measurement 7" finbox for at least 25 years, are the strongest by far, and fins sizing availible as long as you need, up to 12" easily.
The same company making the center boxes for logboards and single fins, plate and screw, about $9.
lokbox!
nevermind.
hi Mardar …
the 7" fu type box I recently put in my ‘bonzer’ …I’m making some keels soon for a mate who is putting boxes in his fish .
Here in Australia , they are called “multifin systems” fin boxes , and as Lee pointed out … are available in a variety of sizes …[ours, also]
If you want 9" base keels for example , you could use a 10" box , or an 8" box with the back of the keel extending behind the edge of the box, something like this …
[homemade effort…early days of fin base moulding for me at the moment ]
okay , I hope this helps ....
cheers !

I’ll try to download a picture of 9x5 keels in 10 inch Bahne boxes. Chip, are there? Mike
Like the man said: Lokbox.
yep , just got back from a weekend at Grant’s Garage !

…they look great !!
…how many layers of what oz cloth , and are they slightly tinted, please ?
[ or, is it just my eyes, after two days of making and grinding fins ??]
… cheers Mike !

I had the fins made by rainbow fins about a year and a half ago with the idea of interchangeable keels. That was before I knew about the Lokbox fin set-up. Or, before they were being marketed here on Sways. The fins are beautiful. They change color from blue-purple-green depending on the angle of light. This board originally had double foiled ply keels and it just did not surf well enough. So, I decided to use the fins Rainbow made for me with the boxes even with the obvious improvements from Lokbox. It did improve the ride, although I have ‘funner’ fishes. I double glassed around the boxes with 6 oz glass. I’ve ridden this board 30 or 40 times with no noticable separation or leakage. I considered LeeD’s idea of wood inforcers around the boxes. Coque’s got a fish with the same set-up, I think. I’ll probably sell or give the board away. Without the fins. I’ve thought of grinding off the tabs and glassing them onto a board I like. Mike
