How’s it going? I,m. Getting ready to start on my rails. I’m not sure how to determine the measurements for the rail bands…if anyone can help, I’d appreciate it.

By Eye. Not trying to be flippant. Training your eye is the best and most important thing you can do. Also have a rail template to use as a guide and achieving symmetry.
So you don’t measure up from the bottom to a mark to pane down to?

This technique allows me to no longer draw out rail bands. The rail band tool sets you up for success every time.
I call mine a skull 100. I am working on a windsurfer now and when I cut the rail I will send a pic.
The above video is a great reference for any beginning/experienced shaper not set in their ways.
