I have neglected to put my rice paper logo on the blank prior to laminating. Can I put it on top of the cloth prior to doing filler coat or even put it on before doing the gloss coat. Or should I just forget it. Any clues would be helpful.
Just put a patch of 4oz cloth over it. That’s the way I prefer to do logos now. It makes laminating the board easier, no folding cloth back then repositioning it and no worries about the logo moving. Also doing it as a post process makes it easier to get the logos perfectly aligned and if you make a mistake you could remove the logo if you had to…
+1, what mako said.
Put it on before doing the fill coat. Glass a small patch over the logo, let it cure, then do the fillcoat. There will be minimal sanding over the logo this way.
If you put the logo on after the fill coat, you'll have to fill coat the logo patch and blend it in with original fillcoat. This will probably show in the gloss coat if the blending is not done to perfection.
If you have access to it… 2 ounce coth works out better. You just need a little something to hold the logo down
Many thanks everyone, problem solved.
I have been cutting small scraps of 4oz. I use these to laminate over the logo. Wet it out and let it gel. Peel the cloth off once it gels. The laminate remains on the board and a weave like patch of resin gives you some sanding room. It will leave less of an area to feather out than if you leave patch of cloth. Hotcoat the board as normal.
